Rollcall.com Goes Pay

By Steve Horton
iProduction

ST. PAUL, MN – April 24, 2003 – Rollcall.com, the Washington D.C. publisher of Congressional news and information on the Internet, has begun charging regular subscriptions for full access to the Web site. In addition, complete issues of Roll Call Newspaper, published in print since 1955, are now published on the site three days a week while Congress is in session. Previously, Rollcall.com published selected articles and columns from the newspaper, but did not publish complete issues.

St. Paul, Minnesota-based iProduction provides Rollcall.com with Internet publishing systems and related services. iProduction also provides Internet systems and services for Roll Call Daily, the publisher’s daily news service, and RC Jobs, an interactive employment service for organizations and job-seekers in the Washington D.C. region.

Stephen M. Laliberte, president of iProduction, said more and more Web publishers are placing complete issues on their Web sites and charging regular subscriptions for access. “These days, news publishers like Roll Call want to form a distinction between their Web publications and lesser Web sites,” Laliberte said. “A great way to do that is to deliver complete, branded issues on the Web. People perceive publication issues as valuable, organized information delivered on a reliable basis. That perception of value is what makes subscribers want to sign up.”
