iProduction Adopts New Sitemap Standards

St. Paul, MN - March, 2007 – Internet Production, Inc. has adopted new Sitemap standards that are now being implemented as a standard component of the Internet Publishing System™.

According to Sitemaps.org, “Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling. In its simplest form, a Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL (when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important it is, relative to other URLs in the site) so that search engines can more intelligently crawl the site.” Sitemaps have recently been endorsed by all of the major search engines including Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

iProduction will implement Sitemaps as a standard component of the Internet Publishing System™. All editorial content on a website will be automatically added to the site’s Sitemap file.

“Using sitemaps will help ensure that no content pages are left out of indexing because they fall out of linked URL chains,” said iProduction president Stephen Laliberte. “In many cases with issue archives, the designer will eliminate direct links to issues, favoring use of the on site search to locate articles. This breaks the chain of links that allows a search engine to find content.”
