iProduction Domain Services

iProduction provides a wide range of services to meet the needs of our customers, the following information may be inaccurate in cases where service extends beyond basic ASP service. If you have questions, please contact us.

Domain Registration
A registrar is the company or organization that you purchase or register your domain name through. The registrar records your contact information and your DNS server information, and they publish it with the InterNIC. Registering domains yourself is not hard -- we can do it for you and answer your questions.

InterNIC has a nice FAQ. The FAQ will probably tell you that you need to choose one of the authorized domain name registrars like Network Solutions and register by filling out their online form. In that form, you will be asked for names and addresses. An important one is the Billing Contact. You will be the Administrative Contact. Please make iProduction a Technical Contact. With Network Solutions, this allows us to make technical changes to your domains. Use our NetSol NIC handle "CW4393."

After you submit your registration (and pay the registrar), you are registered. Now it's time to enable DNS and set up your DNS records. If iProduction will be providing DNS for you, we will need a list of domain names. (A copy of the confirmation email you get from the registrar is a nice way to tell us.)

DNS
The Domain Name System is the system that translates Internet domain names into IP numbers. A "DNS Server" is a server that performs this kind of translation. DNS is separate from domain registration.

If you want to change DNS providers, you will need to tell your registrar about the change. iProduction can handle this for you. Just give us the list of domains and the username and password for the management account with your registrar, and we can do the rest. Or, you can change the DNS servers yourself -- the details are below:

Important: Contact us before you change the DNS servers for any of your domains, so we can set up the domains on our DNS servers. Otherwise, your web site, email, and other services will not be reachable.
